Duff & Phelps to Host 2014 IP Value Summit

Duff & Phelps Corporation, the premier global valuation and corporate finance advisor, will host its inaugural IP Value Summit on November 5-6 at The Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay, CA. The event will focus on strategies for optimizing intellectual property across multiple disciplines including valuation and M&A, tax and transfer pricing and licensing and litigation. The Duff & Phelps IP Value Summit will bring together corporate executives, attorneys, investors and other intellectual property experts to discuss best practices, challenges and opportunities in valuing, managing, monetizing, structuring and protecting intellectual property assets.

Judge Paul Michel, retired Chief Judge of the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and globally renowned expert in intellectual property law, will deliver the keynote address. Judge Michel served for more than 22 years on the Federal Circuit, retiring in May 2010. He has been ranked one of the top 50 most influential leaders in intellectual property law in the world. In addition, the two-day program is structured along three distinct tracks with tailored sessions on strategies for optimizing IP in connection with the following disciplines:

  • Valuation and M&A - This track will include sessions on navigating IP in M&A transactions, IP valuation in early-stage businesses, and IP strategy and value maximization.
  • Tax and Transfer Pricing - This track will include sessions on exploring recent OECD developments and international tax planning, bridging the divide between valuations done for financial reporting vs. transfer pricing, and best practices to consider when valuing IP, including forecasting and calculating discount rates.
  • Licensing, Litigation and Strategy - This track will include sessions on trends in the legal landscape for patents and trade secrets, strategies for the monetization of IP, as well as issues regarding IP in the context of a global business environment.

“Intellectual property continues to be top of mind for corporate executives in every industry as evidenced by recent transactions involving vast IP portfolios as well as high profile patent infringement cases,” said Jacob Silverman, President of Duff & Phelps. “The Duff & Phelps IP Value Summit will bring together renowned experts to discuss the most pressing issues facing professionals in this space.”
