Chris Bakewell is a managing director based in Houston, leader of the Intellectual Property Disputes practice and city leader. Recently, this practice was recognized as the “Best Intellectual Property Litigation Consulting Firm” by the National Law Journal.
Chris has more than two decades of professional experience in the areas of business and asset valuation, economic and financial analyses and dispute consulting. His industry experience includes semiconductors, computer hardware and software, heavy industry, medical devices, energy, pharmaceuticals, media, retail and telecommunications.
Chris specializes in helping clients navigate through complex intellectual property issues by providing them with financial and valuation analyses and licensing-related consulting services. Chris has a unique background in that his career has been split between consulting and industry, which enables him to bring a pragmatic and experienced approach towards solving complex financial problems.
Chris also provides expert testimony in the context of business disputes, including patent infringement and other valuation-related matters. Chris also has significant expertise in providing expert opinions in Section 337 investigations before the International Trade Commission. His clients include inventors, start-up businesses and some of the world’s leading companies.
Chris has been nationally recognized as a top economic expert witness in the 2014 edition of the IAM Patent 1000. According to the guide, Chris is “one of the most renowned disputes experts in the land,” and one source adds that “the preparation he does in advance of his testimony is extraordinarily thorough and you can’t trip him up in cross-examination. Chris is the author or co-author of several publications on the subjects of valuation and licensing, and often speaks on these subjects. Chris earned an M.B.A. in finance from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland at College Park, and a B.S. degree from Bradley University. He also holds the designations of Accredited Senior Appraiser from the American Society of Appraisers and Certified Licensing Professional from the Licensing Executives Society.
