Errol Soriano FCPA FCA FCBV CFE, is a managing director in the Disputes and Investigations practice in Toronto. Since 1991, Errol's practice has been dedicated exclusively to the areas of business valuation, the quantification of financial loss and forensic investigation.
Errol has received the honorary designation of Fellow from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators and from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, both in recognition of his valued contributions and overall leadership in the profession. In both instances, this award has been bestowed on approximately 2% of members. Global Arbitration Review and Who’s Who Legal (published in the UK by Law Business Research) have recognized Errol as a leading (global) expert in financial loss quantification and expert witness testimony.
Errol has prepared in the range of 1000 expert reports over his career in complex litigation matters involving tax disputes, patent infringement, international trade disputes (NAFTA and bilateral investment treaties), shareholder disputes (oppression and dissent remedies), breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, post-acquisition purchase price disputes, product liability claims, negligence claims , fraud and misrepresentation claims and insurance claims.
Errol’s expertise is also sought in non-litigious matters to prepare fairness opinions to special committees of public companies and expert reports submitted to regulatory boards, professional associations and government ministries and agencies on matters concerning policy, regulatory compliance and pricing. Errol has also acted as a transaction advisor and mediator in buy/sell transactions
Errol has experience in a wide variety of industries with particularly deep experience in oil and gas, chemical manufacturing, aerospace and aviation, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, infrastructure development, heavy industry manufacturing, automotive manufacturing and retailing, franchising, consumer products, agriculture, fisheries and tax shelters.
Errol's clients include privately held businesses, national and multi-national companies, Fortune 500 companies and government agencies and departments. He has provided services to clients in Canada, the United States, Europe, South America and the Middle East.
Errol has provided testimony as an expert witness over 45 times in various Canadian courts and in international arbitration proceedings and has also been appointed Inspector to conduct a forensic investigation and report his findings directly to the court.
In addition to his broad practical experience, Errol is the author of an authoritative text on the quantification of financial loss (and co-author of a second text), and has lectured extensively to professional interest groups in Canada, the United States, Europe and the Middle East.
