James Cook is a Managing Director in the Hong Kong office and part of the Restructuring Advisory practice. He has more than 15 years’ debt advisory and restructuring experience and is a Chartered Accountant.
James has extensive experience advising creditors, debtors and other stakeholders in a broad range of complex restructuring and insolvency situations, including debt raising and refinancing, options analysis, financial restructurings and contingency planning. Many of these assignments have included cross-border considerations as well as challenging operational issues.
James’ sector expertise covers financial services, automotive, retail, property and telecommunications.
Current and previous assignments include:
The financial restructuring of Arcapita Bank B.S.C, a Bahrain based Sharia compliant investment bank with assets of $10 billion under management;
Supporting the management team of a global steel and raw material trading group (with debt facilities totalling $3.9 billion) in the operational restructuring of its business;
The financial restructuring of the WIND Hellas group (€1.8 billion debt), Greece’s third largest telecoms provider.
Project managing the workout of Snoras Bank, a €2 billion Lithuanian financial institution;
Advising a UK property group with regard to the restructuring of its debt facilities (c.£900m) and contingency options; and
Advising a significant lender in the £2.1 billion debt restructuring of Punch Taverns plc;
Other roles include advising a global automotive parts manufacturer in relation to the restructuring of its debt (US$200 million) and contingency planning exercises for a large multinational agricultural chemical testing company (€113 million debt) and a multinational consumer products manufacturer (£730 million debt) in support of their wider debt restructuring negotiations.
