Joel is the director at Duff & Phelps Canada responsible for overseeing the Forensic Technology and Operations aspects of Duff & Phelps Global eDiscovery, Forensic Services, and Information Systems Security department. Joel has held that position since May 2012.
From August 2011 to May 2012, Joel was the Manager of Forensic Technology Services at Harvester Forensics Limited. From August 2007 to August 2011, Joel was a Consultant in the Forensic Technology Services group at KPMG.
The Forensic Technology side of Duff & Phelps Global eDiscovery and Forensic Services department is responsible for preserving, investigating and reporting on any matters involving digital evidence, as well as performing collection and pre-processing for electronic discovery matters. This pre-processing includes any format conversion, de-duplication, and keyword or date filtering of electronic documents.
On the investigative front, Joel has participated in a mediation held at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice for a case that was listed on the Commercial List. In addition, Joel has authored dozens of expert reports and affidavits which have been submitted to the Court.
Joel has developed several techniques and proprietary software tools designed to increase the accuracy and efficiency of Forensic Technology processes as they pertain to Electronic Discovery.
Over the years, Joel has gained experience working on hundreds of cases involving digital evidence. These cases have ranged in size from single computer investigations, through cases involving multinational companies where hundreds of electronic devices were involved.
Joel has worked on computer forensic investigations in Canada, the United States, China, and Trinidad.
Joel holds the degrees of Bachelor of Applied Information Science – Information Systems Security from Sheridan Institute, as well as Master of Science – Information Assurance from Davenport University. Joel is an EnCase Certified Examiner.
