Michael Dolan is a managing director in the Valuation Advisory Services practice and is the New York office city leader for Duff & Phelps. He is the global leader of the Industry Products group and is part of the TICE industry group. Michael has more than seventeen years of experience with the firm, starting with the Valuation Services Group within Coopers & Lybrand LLP. Michael also serves on various internal committees for Duff & Phelps.
Michael has performed numerous valuations for financial reporting, tax and merger and acquisition purposes and has extensive experience in the valuations of businesses and related assets, including patents, technology, trademarks, and licenses. He has directed engagements for numerous large clients, such as: Altria, Cablevision, Chemtura, Cognizant, Colgate-Palmolive, DIRECTV, GE, GE Capital, IMS Health, Intelsat, Liberty, News Corporation, Pearson, and 21st Century Fox. He oversees the GE client relationship for Duff & Phelps.
He assisted the former News Corporation with the worldwide implementation of ASC §350 and various impairment tests. Michael served as an expert witness in an arbitration matter between Boeing and BCE and has served as a third-party arbitrator in other valuation matters.
Michael has given numerous presentations on valuing intellectual property, including at the Copyright Society of the USA, the Licensing Executive Society, New York Business Forums, NY Polytechnic University’s high-tech conference, and as a Guest Lecturer at Columbia Business School and Rutgers’ Office of Corporate Liaison and Technology Transfer. Additionally, he prepared and presented continuing legal education classes for the New York Bar Association on Valuing Intellectual Property and on the use of Intellectual Property Experts.
Michael received his B.S. Business Administration with concentrations in economics, finance and marketing from the University of Richmond and received his M.B.A. in finance and accounting from Boston College, Carroll School of Management. He received his J.D. from Boston College Law School and is a CFA charter holder. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association’s (NYSBA) Business Law, Tax, and Intellectual Property Law Sections, New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) and American Bar Association (ABA).
