Richard Chase is a managing director in the Chicago office of Duff & Phelps and is the tax leader in the Transaction Advisory Services segment. He has almost twenty years of experience as a tax specialist and attorney, primarily in the areas of mergers & acquisitions, refinancings and foreign and domestic tax planning.
Richard has been involved with all aspects of the tax due diligence and tax structuring process and has evaluated the tax risks associated with over 300+ proposed merger and acquisition transactions for companies engaged in a variety of industries, including consumer products, technology, manufacturing, retail, services, health care, chemical and the food industry.
Richard has worked on deal sizes ranging from $5 million to over $2 billion. He has been involved with presenting his tax findings and proposed structuring alternatives to private equity firm investment committee meetings regarding various buyouts, mergers and mezzanine financing deals.
Richard’s practice also involves advising clients on the post-transaction accounting for income tax matters pursuant to ASC 740 and ASC 805, as well as overall income tax provision preparation for inclusion in a company’s financial statements.
Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, Richard was a tax manager at American Capital Strategies, where he was responsible for evaluating all tax risks associated with potential acquisitions, as well as providing tax consulting services to American Capital’s more than 250+ portfolio investments.
Before joining American Capital, Richard was a tax manager in the Transaction Advisory Services group at Ernst & Young LLP where he was involved in all aspects of tax due diligence and tax structuring. Richard’s focus was with private equity firms involved in a variety of industries, as well as with many global fortune 500 companies.
Richard received his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law and his B.S. in finance from the University of Illinois.
