TomBritven, Managing Director Tom Britven joined Duff & Phelps in 2008. He is a managing director in the Houston office and is also the National Intellectual Property Consulting practice leader. Tom has more than 27 years of experience in financial services consulting, with an emphasis on intellectual property litigation.
Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, Tom was the President of Lumin Expert Group, a consulting firm specializing in intellectual property dispute support and expert testimony. Previously, he held executive positions with LECG and Navigant Consulting, and was an auditor with Amsted Industries. Tom specializes in quantifying damages in matters involving patent infringement, trade secret, trademark, copyright and trade dress issues. His clients represent a range of industries, including the biotechnology, computer, manufacturing, medical device, oil and gas, pharmaceutical and retail industries.

David Althoff joined Duff & Phelps in 1997. He is a managing director in the firm's Chicago office. David has more than 15 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions, private placement and financial restructuring.
Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, David was a vice president at Harris Trust & Savings Bank, where he focused on cash flow lending for acquisitions. He has also held positions at Scotiabank and Boulevard Bank. David specializes in providing merger and acquisition services to buyers and sellers of private and public companies and portfolio companies owned by private equity funds.
David holds an M.B.A. from Drake University and a B.B.A. in finance from the University of Iowa.
AnjanChatterjee, Senior Advisor
Anjan Chatterjee has served on Duff & Phelps' Senior Advisory Board since 2004. He brings more than 25 years of management consulting, strategic planning and financial management experience in the automotive, electronics and distribution industries.
Anjan has provided consulting services to automotive OEMs and Tier 1 automotive companies in the areas of strategy, manufacturing cost reduction, global restructuring, sales force effectiveness and global sourcing. He has advised private equity and hedge funds in assessing and conducting acquisitions in the automotive parts sector.
He is the former interim chief financial office and senior vice president of Strategic Planning for Visteon Corporation, where he led all financial and restructuring activities. Prior to that he was a senior director at McKinsey & Company, where he launched the firm's Detroit office and led the North American Automotive practice. Anjan also was partner at ATKearney, focused on transportation and technology companies. He has broad international experience, having conducted a three-year information technology engagement in the Middle East and advised many large companies in Europe and Asia.
Anjan holds an M.B.A. from Stanford University, an M.S. in computer science from George Washington University and a B.E. in electronics from The Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, India. Michael H.Dolan, Esq., CFA, Managing Director
Michael Dolan joined Duff & Phelps in 1997. He is the city leader for the New York office and part of the firm's Tax Valuation practice. Michael has more than 11 years of experience in performing valuations for financial reporting, tax, and merger and acquisition purposes.
Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, Michael was at Coopers & Lybrand, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Standard & Poor's as part of their respective valuation practices. He has extensive experience in the valuations of businesses and related assets, including patents, technology, trademarks, and licenses. Michael’s clients represent a broad range of industries, including the publishing, broadcast, consumer and industrial products, software and retail industries.
Michael holds a J.D. from Boston College Law School, an M.B.A. in finance and accounting from Boston College Carroll School of Management and a B.S. in business administration from the University of Richmond. He is also a CFA charterholder.
ErikLaykin, Managing Director Erik Laykin is a managing director in the firm's Dispute and Legal Management Consulting group. Based in Los Angeles, he is the co-leader of Duff & Phelps' Global Electronic Discovery and Investigations Practice. Erik focuses on high stakes eDiscovery, computer forensics and corporate investigations on behalf of law firms and corporations throughout the North America, Asia and Europe.
In addition to his eDiscovery credentials, Erik is an internationally recognized authority on complex information technology disputes, which include white collar and cyber crime, theft of trade secrets, privacy and data loss, internet, software, hardware systems failures, intellectual property disputes and other emerging challenges of the Information Age. As a result, Erik frequently provides expert witness testimony on behalf of litigants in federal and state courts.
Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, Erik was the Chair of the Information Technology Investigations practice at Navigant Consulting. In the 1990's he founded OnlineSecurity, Inc. one of the world's first IT investigative and computer forensic firms. While Erik regularly comments on legal and technology matters at international conferences and for the media, he is also the past president and Pacific rim chair of the FBI Infragard Program.
Erik is active with various committees of the American Bar Association, the Sedona Conference, the Academy of Court Appointed Masters, the Forensic Expert Witness Association, the Electronic Commerce Council and the High Tech Crime Investigators Association. BillPearson, Senior Advisor
Bill Pearson has served on Duff & Phelps' Senior Advisory Board since 2002. He brings more than 25 years of experience in telecommunications, including a host of fixed, mobile, cable television and internet technologies.
Since 2002, Bill has consulted for clients on a variety of restructuring assignments for leading communications companies throughout the United States and Europe. He has expertise in providing due diligence, valuation and merger and acquisition support for U.S. and European telecommunications companies. Bill also has served as an expert witness and consulted with a number of hedge fund and private equity funds on various potential investments.
Previously Bill co-founded CompleTel, one of the largest telecommunications providers in France, and served in top leadership positions, including chief executive officer and chairman of the board. Prior to his tenure at Completel, he co-founded SPD CableTel, which focused on acquiring and upgrading U.S. cable television systems. Prior to his tenure at SPD CableTel, from 1989 to 1992, he developed and implemented the strategy for combining Cable TV and telecoms for Telewest in the United Kingdom. He started his career with USWest, where he held many global roles serving in the cellular division, and strategic planning, marketing and business development organizations.
Bill holds an M.B.A. from the University of Minnesota and a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, returning to the UW for fall 1992 as associate professor, teaching MBA-level marketing while on sabbatical.
JohnSchrader, Managing Director
John Schrader is a managing director in the Alternative Asset Advisory practice of Duff & Phelps, and is responsible for building out our service capabilities in structured credit. John brings with him 19 years of fixed-income, capital markets and investment banking experience, during which time he has focused on helping ABS, CDO, MBS, CMBS and proprietary traders in their trading, structuring, hedging and risk management activities. In addition to managing risk functions John also generated income through capital structure arbitrage.
Schrader is the former head of Global Risk Management in the Securitized Products Group of Morgan Stanley, and was responsible for measuring and monitoring the risk taking activities of trading desks across the spectrum of residential, consumer, commercial debt. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, John was a senior managing director at Bear Stearns in charge of Market Risk for Global Mortgage Trading. He spent 10 years with Bear Stearns and additional time at other financial institutions including CSFB, Lehman Brothers and American Express.
Schrader has an M.B.A., with a concentration in finance, from New York University's Stern School of Business and a B.S. in business administration, with a concentration in finance, from Bryant College.
MargaretShanley, Managing Director
Margaret joined Duff & Phelps in 2006. She is a managing director in the Santa Monica and Los Angeles offices and leads the firm's West Coast Transaction Advisory Services practice. Margaret has more than 13 years of consulting and financial advisory experience.
Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, Margaret was with RSM McGladrey, Inc., where she developed the consulting firm's middle market Transaction Advisory Practice. She also worked in the Assurance Practice of Ernst & Young in Ireland and Boston and as a corporate finance analyst for the largest vertically integrated utility in Ireland. Margaret has conducted due diligence and managed acquisitions and transactions for many strategic and financial buyers and sellers in a variety of industries, including consumer products, specialty retail, business services, aerospace, contractors, technology, niche manufacturing and distribution. Margaret works with privately held and public companies, both healthy and distressed.
Margaret holds a B.A. in business studies from the University of Limerick, Ireland, with a major in accounting and finance and a minor in business French. She is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.
SanjeevVarma, Senior Advisor
Sanjeev Varma has served on Duff & Phelps' Senior Advisory Board since 2005. He brings more than 24 years of experience in the automotive and manufacturing sectors, specializing in restructuring, strategic planning, marketing, sales, business development, manufacturing and product development.
Previously, Sanjeev was director of marketing and planning for Magna Powertrain, a subsidiary of Magna Group. Prior to that, he served as director of Marketing, Planning and Asian sales for New Venture Gear, a joint venture between DaimlerChrysler and General Motors. As an engineer and inventor with the Chrysler Corporation, Sanjeev led engineering teams, developed new automotive driveline technologies and products, including hybrids and electrics, and earned six patents. He has worked with major automakers worldwide and visited more than 250 manufacturing facilities globally.
Sanjeev was also an advisor to a German government agency in Berlin, helping bring foreign investment to East Germany.
Sanjeev holds an M.S. in mechanical engineering from Syracuse University and a B.Tech. in mechanical engineering from IIT Kanpur in India. He has attended executive development programs at Cornell, MIT and Wharton Business School. Sanjeev is a FINRA series 63 and series 79 registered representative.
Dr. FlorianWiedemann, Managing Director
Dr. Florian Wiedemann joined Duff & Phelps in 2007. He is a managing director in the Munich office and is part of the firm's Valuation Advisory practice. Florian has more than 10 years of experience in valuation and consulting.
Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, was a director with the Corporate Finance group of KPMG, where he began his career. Florian specializes in serving clients in the communication, information, media, entertainment, industrial and consumer product industries. He has conducted numerous valuations for businesses, intangible assets and brands and has provided merger and acquisition support, business plan development and other strategic advisory services. Florian has written many publications and presents regularly at conferences.
Florian holds a Dr. oec from the University of St. Gallen and a Diplom-Kaufmann from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, Munich.
SkipVictor, Senior Managing Director Skip Victor is a senior managing director and co-founder of Chanin Capital Partners, which was acquired by Duff & Phelps in 2006. He is based in the Santa Monica office and is part of the firm's Global Restructuring Advisory practice. Skip has more than 20 years of experience in all phases of corporate restructurings, recapitalizations and other distressed transactions.
Prior to founding Chanin Capital Partners in 1990, Skip was a vice president in the Corporate Finance department of Drexel Burnham Lambert, Inc., specializing in bankruptcies and restructurings. Over his career he has developed deep expertise in advising companies, creditors and other interested parties in corporate restructurings as well as mergers and acquisitions, corporate financings and court testimony. Skip has served clients across a broad range of industries and situations, including Calpine Corporation, Le Meridien Hotels and Resorts, Mirant, Inc., Nextel International, Pacific Gas & Electric, Satélites Mexicanos and Tricom. He has also been a guest lecturer on several reorganization panels and for the UCLA Graduate School of Management.
Skip holds an M.B.A. from UCLA Graduate School of Management and a B.A. from Cornell University. GregoryHiggins, Managing Director
Gregory Higgins joined Duff & Phelps in 2004. He is a managing director in the Chicago office and the global leader of the firm’s Dispute and Legal Management Consulting practice. He has more than 20 years of experience in financial, economic, accounting and general business consulting.
Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, Gregory was Midwest practice leader for the Financial Advisory Services group at Deloitte & Touche LLP. He specializes in the calculation of damages and providing expert testimony in a variety of litigation matters. Gregory has substantial experience in the preparation, negotiation and settlement of business interruption and physical damage insurance claims. He has served a broad range of industries, such as hospitality, insurance, retailing, service, real estate, construction and manufacturing.
Gregory holds an M.B.A. in finance and a B.Sc in accounting from Indiana University.
RobertKirtley, Managing Director
Robert Kirtley joined Duff & Phelps in 2005. He is a managing director in the Chicago office and is the leader of the Legal Management Consulting practice. He also leads the Legal Business Solutions group. Robert has more than 18 years of management consulting experience, with a focus on strategy development for organizations, operations and information management.
Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, Robert was a managing director with Standard & Poor’s Corporate Value Consulting. He also served as a national practice leader for the Strategic Legal Solutions Group at Deloitte Consulting, where he worked for 12 years. Robert specializes in improving clients’ organizational control and effectiveness, enhancing productivity and reducing costs. He has served clients in a variety of industries, including life sciences, financial services, energy, manufacturing and entertainment.
Robert holds an M.B.A. in finance from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School and a B.S.B. in finance from the University of Minnesota, Carlson School.
Jan JaapSnel, Managing Director
Jan Jaap Snel joined Duff & Phelps in 2006. He is a managing director in the Amsterdam office and part of the firm’s Financial Reporting practice. Jan Jaap has more than 12 years of valuation service experience.
Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, Jan Jaap was a partner and leader of the Financial Reporting Valuations Group at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he worked for ten years. He started his career as a senior auditor at Arthur Andersen in Rotterdam. Jan Jaap provides comprehensive valuation services for restructuring, portfolio analyses, tax and financial reporting and disputes. He also delivers fairness opinions for a broad range of clients. Jan Jaap has experience with industries, including consumer products, industrial products, utilities, financial services, technology, media and telecommunication.
Jan Jaap holds a degree in business economics from Erasmus University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
MichaelGibbs, Managing Director Michael Gibbs joined Duff & Phelps in 2008. He is a managing director in the Atlanta office and part of the firm’s Real Estate Advisory practice. Michael brings more than 17 years of experience in real estate valuation and consulting.
Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, Michael was a director at Standard & Poor’s CVC. His primary focus is on real estate valuation, acquisition and disposition due diligence and consulting for institutional owners and operators of real estate. Michael also has expertise assisting companies in determining fair values for financial reporting and tax purposes, including valuations for ASC 805 and ASC 820, IRS Section 338(h)(10) elections and IRS Section 170 elections.
Michael has a B.S. with a concentration in real estate and finance and an M.A. in real estate and urban land analysis from the University of Florida. Michael holds the MAI designation. He is also a certified general real property appraiser, licensed in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee. CarlHoemke, Managing Director
Carl R.E. Hoemke joined Duff & Phelps in 2005. He is a managing director and business unit leader of strategy for the Tax Services practice. He is also a leader in the Power and Utility Industry Practice. Carl has more than 20 years of energy and utility property valuation, management consulting and financial advisory experience.
Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, Carl was a managing director at Standard & Poor’s Corporate Value Consulting, where he developed and led the group that served energy industry clients. He also was a national valuation partner for Ernst & Young. Carl specializes in providing expert witness testimony, litigation support, appraisal and valuation analysis, and the development of tax strategies for regulated and non-regulated utility companies. Carl has served a variety of industries, including electric utilities, electric generation facilities, railroads, airlines, natural gas pipelines, telecommunications and cable television.
Carl holds a B.A. in finance from Abilene Christian University. KoichiKinoshita, Senior Advisor
Koichi Kinoshita has served on Duff & Phelps' Senior Advisory Board since 2008. He brings more than 30 years of experience in banking and financial services.
Koichi spent 28 years with Sumitomo Bank, presently known as Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, where he worked in various positions, including managing the sales divisions and heading up relationship management for many of the company’s important offices around Japan. From 1995 to 1997, Koichi served as executive vice president of Sumitomo Capital Securities throughout its merger with Daiwa Securities to become Daiwa Securities SMBC Co., Ltd.
Subsequent to his career at Sumitomo as a director, Koichi headed the Sales and Marketing team of Sega Enterprises, where he was responsible for supervising the European Consumer Product Division. Koichi also served as an advisor to the president of an asset management firm and held several senior operations and management positions at related subsidiaries, during which time he was responsible for strategic planning. He also recently served as a senior managing director and chief strategic officer to a Japanese consumer finance company.
Koichi holds a B.A. from the University of Tokyo. RaymondKane, Managing Director
Raymond Kane is a managing director in the New York office of Duff & Phelps and head of the Private Debt and Equity Placement Group. Ray has more than 17 years experience with the origination and sale of securities to investors in the private placement market.
Prior to joining Duff & Phelps in 2009, Ray served as a director and co-head of the Private Finance Group at Houlihan Lokey and sat on the firm’s Finance Committee. Prior to joining Houlihan Lokey, in 2000, Ray served as a director in the Debt Capital Markets Group with New York-based UBS Warburg, where he provided financial advisory services and executed private placement transactions on behalf of public and private companies. He has raised more than $5 billion of senior and subordinated debt and equity financing for companies in the consumer products, transportation, paper, building products, retail, defense, healthcare, oil and gas and food industries, among others.
Ray received his B.B.A. cum laude from Loyola College in Maryland and his M.B.A. in finance and marketing from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business. He is licensed with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority as a general securities principal, holding a Series 24, 7 and 63. DanielPatracuolla, Managing Director Daniel Patracuolla is a managing director in Duff & Phelps’ Morristown office and part of the firm’s Alternative Asset Advisory practice. Dan has more than 14 years of valuation experience, providing an array of valuation services to hedge fund, private equity fund and corporate clients. He specializes in advising a wide range of alternative asset investors, including hedge funds, private equity funds, LP investors and corporations on valuing illiquid securities and establishing best practices and fair value policies and procedures.
Prior to coming to Duff & Phelps, Dan was an executive director at Morgan Stanley, where he was responsible for the development and execution of mark to market review procedures for global strategic investments and loans held by Morgan Stanley in compliance with FAS 157 and other accounting pronouncements. Prior to Morgan Stanley, Dan was a director with Standard & Poor’s Corporate Value Consulting and its predecessor firms PricewaterhouseCoopers and Price Waterhouse. Dan has valued businesses, a wide range of debt and equity securities and intangible assets across numerous industries for various purposes, including merger and acquisition transactions, financial reporting, tax, restructuring and the administration of management compensation plans. Dan is focused on leading valuation reviews of illiquid securities for financial reporting purposes.
Dan received his B.S. in metallurgical and materials engineering from Lehigh University and his M.B.A. in finance from Seton Hall University.
