16th Annual Charity Golf Classic Benefits Peter Munk Cardiac Centre

Event Features PGA Pro and Transplant Recipient Erik Compton

Duff & Phelps Corporation, a leading independent financial advisory and investment banking firm, today announced plans to host the 16th annual Charity Golf Classic at Toronto’s Beacon Hall Golf Club on June 24. The event is expected to raise more than $150,000 to benefit The Peter Munk Cardiac Centre of Toronto General Hospital, which specializes in cardiac, vascular and cardiovascular care.

The event will feature PGA Tour pro golfer and two-time heart transplant recipient  Erik Compton, who will host a clinic to start the day. The Peter Munk Cardiac Centre’s mission holds particular significance to Mr. Compton, who was diagnosed with viral cardiomyopathy at nine years of age. Compton has since completed two successful heart transplants, the only professional golfer in the world to compete with a transplanted heart.

“Over the past 16 years, our team has been gratified by the Charity Golf Classic and its positive impact on deserving charities in our region,” commented Robert Harlang, Managing Director at Duff & Phelps and event co-chair. “We are grateful to Beacon Hall Golf Club, Erik Compton and other event partners for contributing to a wonderful event and benefiting the millions of Canadians impacted by heart disease.”

The tournament was created 16 years ago by Duff & Phelps Canada Restructuring, Inc. (formerly RSM Richter) with the dual purpose of creating a sense of community and raising funds for local causes (primarily those related to the medical field). The 2013 tournament has been made possible through the support of more than 40 sponsors, including event sponsors Bank Bros. & Son, Export PackersMetropia and Westdale Properties.

Proceeds from the 2013 Duff & Phelps Charity Golf Classic will facilitate recruitment of three cardiac surgeons and two vascular surgeons over the next two years, as well as supporting potential development of related research laboratories.

Duff & Phelps’ growing presence in Canada was established by the acquisition of Toronto-based financial advisory firm  Cole & Partners in 2010. That team focuses on dispute consulting, valuation, forensic accounting and corporate finance advisory services. In 2011, the Canadian group was enhanced by the addition of RSM Richter’s Financial Restructuring Practice in Toronto; those professionals focus on restructuring and insolvency as part of Duff & Phelps’ Global Restructuring Advisory practice. Last year saw the addition of Harvester Forensics Limited, a leading investigative and e-discovery  firm also based in Toronto.
