Santosh N Talks About Traditional Coaching Institutes Adopting Technology-Enabled Learning Platforms During COVID-19

A recent Economic Times Prime article discussed how the coaching landscape in India has changed over the last few months since the lockdown. It sheds light on how COVID-19 has impacted the functioning of traditional offline coaching institutes, who are roping in cash-rich ed-tech firms or adopting technology-enabled platforms to strengthen their online presence and keep the business running. The article also poses a critical question: “while offline players are preparing for a bruising battle with cash-rich ed-tech firms, is the migration from physical touch, high-value and high-premium, to a low-touch digital delivery a sustainable shift?”

Santosh N, a senior advisor in Duff & Phelps’ Valuation Advisory practice in India, commented: “A significant market share is still with traditional companies. They may have lost some of that in the last three months, because of dipping enrolments due to the lockdown. But they have also developed their technology platforms, whether by design or accident while catering to a more mature segment of the student population, for whom adoption is easier.”
