Srividya Gopalakrishnan Appointed to the Institute of Valuers and Appraisers of Singapore
Duff & Phelps is proud to announce its association with the Institute of Valuers and Appraisers of Singapore (IVAS). The Centre of Excellence (CoEx) Council under the Singapore Accountancy Commission appointed Ms. Srividya Gopalakrishnan, Managing Director, Duff & Phelps Singapore as member of the IVAS Council.
Over the last decade, Business Valuation has gained prominence in Singapore because of the increase in merger and acquisition (M&A) activities in Singapore, rise in arbitration and litigation proceedings, use of fair value measurement in financial reporting framework and growing importance of intellectual property (IP) in business. This has led to an increase in demand for competent professionals in Business Valuation.
Established under the umbrella of the Singapore Accountancy Commission, the IVAS seeks to broaden the talent pool, deepen the expertise of business valuers, uphold public trust in the role they perform and enhance the reputation of the Business Valuation profession in Singapore. Duff & Phelps will work closely with IVAS and its network of industry partners on areas such as curriculum and assessment development, research and thought leadership.
On April 19, 2016, the IVAS and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) launched the Chartered Valuer and Appraiser (CVA) programme; Asia’s first dedicated programme in business valuation. Graced by Ms. Indranee Rajah - Senior Minister of State for Finance and Law, the launch event was witnessed by representatives of 13 supporting industry partners, including Duff & Phelps and more than 100 stakeholders from the Business Valuation ecosystem, including Singapore’s leading accountancy, finance and legal firms.
Mr. Eric Teo, Chairman of IVAS, commented, “The launch of Chartered Valuer and Appraiser programme highlights the growing importance of Business Valuation. Professionals and corporate executives who perform Business Valuation need to be equipped with specialised knowledge and skills; strong values and ethics; and substantial practical experience in order to do the work well. Developing these attributes requires both a professionally structured education and development programme and practicum-based experiential learning.”
Ms. Srividya Gopalakrishnan commented, “The Business Valuation profession is driven by intellectual capital. Historically, there has been very little structured formal training available for Business Valuers. The Chartered Valuer and Appraiser programme is highly relevant for professionals involved in valuations as it equips them with the right skill set, knowledge and competencies to deliver distinctive value proposition. That is why Duff & Phelps works closely with IVAS as we strongly support their efforts to expand and deepen the pool of Business Valuation professionals.”
