Varun Gupta, Managing Director and Asia Pacific Leader for the Valuation Advisory Services practice at Duff & Phelps, was featured in the Economic Times sharing his views on The Indian Premier League’s (IPL), progress over the years as a business entity. After its twelfth season, IPL saw a hike of 13.5% in its brand value according the sixth edition of the Duff & Phelps IPL Brand Valuation Report 2019. According to the report, IPL’s brand value has surged to INR 47,500 crore, from INR 41,800 crore last season.
Varun commented, “As we move into the second decade of IPL, the league has gradually transitioned from being a startup to be a more mature, stable and profitable business model.” He added that if one goes by the recently renewed BCCI and Paytm title sponsorship deal (an increase of 58% on a per-match basis over the last deal), IPL will be looking for another massive increment when the sponsorship rights are up for grabs in the year 2022.
