Managing Director Michelle Johnson in Duff & Phelps’ Transfer Pricing practice will speak on the panel titled, “Latest OECD Guidance and Best Practices for Intercompany Financing”. This session will will highlight key insights and best practices with respect to intercompany financing. It will also discuss the OECD's recent Discussion Draft on Financing Transactions and important regulatory developments that will impact audits of these transactions going forward.
Managing Director Robert Peters in Duff & Phelps’ Sales and Use Tax Services practice will speak on the panel titled, “Wayfair: Debriefed”. The most significant sales tax case in decades was decided by the U.S. Supreme Court was decided on June 21, 2018. South Dakota v. Wayfair eliminated the physical presence standard as a requirement for states to impose tax collection responsibilities on remote sellers. But is the South Dakota law which sets an economic threshold of $100,000 or 200 transactions an appropriate standard? Does the dicta discussion in the opinion provide assurances about what is required for the statutes to be constitutional? This interactive session will discuss some of the background, how South Dakota got to be the test state and what the Supreme Court decision really say the states can do. The presentation will also provide an update on how different states are reacting to the decision in response to the decision.
Director Ryan Lange in the firm’s Transfer Pricing practice will moderate two panels titled, “International Tax Update – Part 1 and 2”. There have been many significant developments in international tax this year, including the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). These presentations will touch on the primary provisions of the TCJA and discuss other important developments impacting U.S. taxation of international operations.
