David Morris is a director in the New York office of Duff & Phelps and a member of the Financial Reporting Services segment. David specializes in analyzing, developing, and communicating our firm’s interpretation of existing and evolving accounting issues as an aid in assisting our client’s accounting policy personnel stemming from his 22 years in financial reporting at JPMorgan Chase (JPMC). 

Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, David was a senior vice president of JPMC Bank and co-director of its global Corporate Accounting Policies. His responsibilities included co-managing the bank’s worldwide accounting policy efforts and to serve as its senior accounting policy officer. He brings a wealth of experience in accounting controls and regulatory financial reporting for large cross-border banking institutions.

David has previously been a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board’s (FASB) Task Forces on Revenue Recognition, Liability Extinguishment, Performance Reporting, Present Value Based Measurements, and Loan Fees. He has also been a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ (AICPA) Auditing Standards Board, Accounting Standards Executive Committee, and their Banking Committee. He has served as Chairman of the Accounting or Technical Committees of IAFEI, International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA), and American Bankers Association (ABA).

David has been a member of the Consultative Advisory Group (CAG) of both the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) and the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA). In addition, he was a member of the Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (ISAR) of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). He was previously Chairman of Financial Executives International’s (FEI) Globalization Oversight Committee and was also a past Chairman of the 30,000 member worldwide organization, International Association of Financial Executives Institutes (IAFEI).

He has also authored numerous articles in various accounting and banking journals, including a booklet entitled, ASC Topic 825, Disclosures about Fair Value of Financial Instruments - Implementation Issues to Consider. In addition, he was the editor of the book, Asset Securitization: Principles and Practice. He is a frequent speaker on current accounting and control issues at various academic and national educational programs and was on the Editorial Boards of both the Journal of Derivatives Accounting and Bank Accounting & Finance.

David received his M.B.A. in accounting from University of Michigan, and B.S. in mechanical engineering, Case Institute of Technology. He is a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and Financial Executives International.
