Marc Melou is a managing director in the Paris office, and is part of the Valuation Advisory Services business unit. Marc is a specialist in Financial Services and has more than 25 years of experience in this field.
Before joining Duff & Phelps, Marc worked in the advisory team of Société Générale CIB dedicated to Financial Institutions. Since the beginning of the financial crisis in 2008, he has performed several advisory mandates in Europe, helping governments and bailed-out banks to ring fence non-core assets in so called “bad banks” as well as supporting the European Commission in evaluating the State Aid involved in numerous impaired assets schemes.
During this period, Marc was also involved in a number of M&A transactions with high asset quality stakes and significant risk management issues. Overall, Marc has reviewed more than €350 billion of complex financial instruments that were at the center of about 15 special situations, including many types of asset-backed securities (ABS) and residential mortgage backed securities (RMBS) as well as credit derivatives, loans and bonds.
He joined Société Générale in 2003 at group level in the financial division, where he was in charge of strategic planning, yearly budgeting and the periodic reporting of all business lines.
Before 2003, Marc had a period of time in Strategy Consulting, where he developed extensive experience in asset liability management, financial planning, risk management, regulatory and accounting issues and M&A. He assisted several prominent French and Belgian financial institutions in building and executing strategic decisions.
He has notably worked in the Strategic Advisory practice of Ernst & Young, as a specialist in Financial Services and Utilities, helping clients to create value, optimise financial risks and face M&A challenges. Prior to that, he had spent ten years in the Capital Market business, as head of cross-market proprietary trading desks and equity derivative activities in two international banks. He also held positions of Asset Manager in bond funds and relative value hedge funds.
Marc graduated in engineering from Ecole Centrale in Economics and Finance from IFP School (French Petroleum Institute) and holds an Executive MBA from HEC Business School.
