Dr. Simon Elsner is a director in the Corporate Finance practice at Duff & Phelps and based in the Munich office. He has more than 8 years of Corporate Finance experience and specializes in strategic advisory, M&A Advisory and Transaction Opinions.

Simon has extensive sector expertise in technology and telecom, media and entertainment (TMT) as well as industrials, specifically automotive. Clients include leading international corporates, both public and private, and well-known private equity firms.

Simon’s most notable experience includes:

  • Advising TMT companies in relation to numerous strategic options evaluations and divestitures of non-core businesses;
  • Advising customer service operators on strategic portfolio reviews, divestitures as well as acquisitions and joint ventures;
  • Advising publicly traded industrial conglomerates on numerous strategic options evaluations, corporate restructurings, divestitures as well as acquisitions and joint ventures; and
  • Providing publicly traded companies and their boards of directors with high-profile fairness opinions, including corporate transactions, recapitalizations and court settlements.

Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, Simon worked as an adjunct professor/lecturer of corporate finance and strategy at the Institute of Strategic Management and Finance at the University of Ulm, Germany, where he began his professional career working as an academic and executive assistant to the director of the institute (Prof. Dr. Frank Richter, Werner Kress endowed chair). Simon developed extensive knowledge in the areas of corporate valuation, corporate strategy and M&A, taught corporate finance courses and gained advisory experience. Furthermore, Simon successfully co-founded and ran a start-up company in the e-commerce sector for several years. During this time, he was principally responsible for strategic planning as well as customer and supplier relationship management.

Simon holds a Diploma (equiv. M. Sc.) in Management and Economics from the University of Ulm, Germany and University of St. Gallen (HSG), Switzerland. He received his Dr. rer. pol. from the University of Ulm.

Simon has published numerous academic articles in well-renowned journals. He is a member of the Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft für Betriebswirtschaft e.V. (SG), a longstanding business administration society and of the European Association of Consultants, Valuators and Analysts (EACVA)-Germany.
